Why do we like this?
On their latest single, "Mojo Thunder," Peach Kings duo Paige Wood and Steven "˜Dies' Trezevant create a trippy and a hauntingly sensual sound that is drowning in whiskey. Recorded in Venice, CA, the title track off of their upcoming EP features Paige's hypnotic alto while the raw guitar riffs create a vibe that would be easily found in a Tarantino movie.
"Mojo Thunder" softly wraps around you and swirls with an encompassing snarl. With an alluring sound that carries influences of indie greats like Portishead and Zero 7, these two are well on their way to a successful release of their album this summer!
The band -- whose self-described sound is "gypsedelia" (which captures their whimsical vibe!) -- was formed in San Francisco by the way of Steven's brother making the introduction a few years back. A move to L.A. and two EPs later, the duo is gaining momentum and have amassed a cult following, largely thanks to residencies at L.A.'s hot spots like Harvard and Stone and the Echoplex. Their next show in San Francisco is at Milk Bar on July 19. If you are near, I suggest hitting up their concert. You won't regret it.
