Why do we like this?

MJ Lenderman's got a way about him that reminds me so deeply of that early 2000s, late 90s grunge thing. The one after Nirvana but before bands like Korn blew up. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, 2010s pop is more my area of expertise.

Nonetheless, I like MJ Lenderman's thing. "Tastes Just Like It Costs" is one of the louder moments on the album, "Boat Songs" that was released earlier this year. Juggling releasing his third solo album alongside being a member of the rising band Wednesday, the album is still gracefully and carefully produced. Being based in North Carolina, some welcomed folk influences come through on other tracks off the record, but this song just reminds me of some era of rock, neither lost nor forgotten.
