Minus The Tiger just released their self-titled debut album on V2 Records, which means it is time to celebrate this pajama-jamming (pajamming?) band from the Netherlands that just about nobody knows. Singer/songwriter Anne Broekman and her producer/husband, Maarten Besseling run the operation, while Anne's brother, Jesse, plays bass and guitar. The band is even named after one of Anne's dead cats, so this is a family affair.
"Animals" is pure Sunday morning music nirvana that goes well with open windows, sunshine, parks and a tall glass of chill. Minus The Tiger goes through a quirky range of alternative, often minimalist pop sounds throughout their always enjoyable debut, but it was this track that I kept coming back to time after time for one more listen.
Be sure to namedrop Minus The Tiger at your next party for 10 cool points and a coveted one-up on the
music snobs.
