A couple of weeks back, we covered "Van Gogh," the first of two collaborative releases from Melbourne hip-hop outfit Milwaukee Banks.
After first teaming up with production wizard Andrei Eremin, they've just released the second installment of this project, a track featuring Melbourne electronic quartet Rat & Co.
Where "Van Gogh" had a fun, easy vibe to it, "Monitor" is at the other end of the spectrum. Making use of Rat & Co's electronic expertise, this track is a dark and ominous blend of electronica and beats -- the very definition of modern hip-hop music. Dyl Thomas's raspy raps are perfectly suited to the spacey soundscapes Rat & Co's Josh Delaney and Edo Rafter (MB) have dreamed up, and the haunting chorus completes the ghostly vibe.
Squeezing this release in before the end of the year, Milwaukee Banks have once again shown that they're a unique operator in the Australian hip-hop scene. Expect plenty more to come from them in 2015.
