I've been a Milwaukee Banks fan for a long while now, and have had the pleasure of catching them live on a number of occasions. The Melbourne duo of Edo and Dyl Thomas have recently signed to Aussie label Dot Dash, and with the announcement came the dense, yet hazy new single "Faded."
In that vein, I've spent a lot of time this year championing Aussie hip-hop that's not the boring music you think of when you hear the term 'Aussie hip-hop', and these guys are an absolute stand-out example.
"Faded" opens on a drowsy rhythm, with layers of fuzzy ambiance that are picked up and pieced together when the beat drops in. The verses are just as blurred - lyrically and tonally. It's almost hard to distinguish between synths and vocals, but this only adds to the understated stoner vibe.
Milwaukee Banks will release their long-awaited debut album Deep Into The Night in early 2016.
