My first reaction? Wow.
I really love this Ta-ku collaboration with Miles Bonny. It's smooth hip-hop that sounds like it should exist in the jazzy 40s. It's a gorgeous track that's perfect for winter -- the drums are fantastic, and the song has a magical feel, with its honest and bewitching lyrics. It was apparently recorded while Bonny's daughter fell asleep on his lap, so it's a well-formed letter to her. What a charming expression of love for another human being! I think Mile's bio sums him up pretty well: "Miles Bonny loves you. His music evokes feelings of honesty and musicality, and he wouldn't want it any other way."
Well, guess what? I love you too, Miles Bonny. This track is the epitome of beautiful, thanks to your superb singing.
"As You Sleep On My Lap" didn't make Ta-ku's EP, which drops in 2013. If this is what's left out, I can't wait to see what's been included. Ta-ku always delivers, and I was super impressed with his "50 Days for Dilla" work back in August.
