Miike Snow gives myth and folktale an injection of dark ooze with "I Was a Sailor."
I love a track that plays with narrative, that takes the recipe of song and designs something more akin to a nursery rhyme, a tale, a myth, and "I Was a Sailor" is a dark, mythic little journey into the gloomy side of Miike Snow's mind. The track is ethereal, childlike, and playful in its depiction of this somewhat darker tale, but it doesn't shy away from giving you an alternate little experience.
The guitar riffs are slow and power-driven, the drum track is bumping, and the hint of the naive chorus makes everything just sit together around the fire telling tales.
