Why do we like this?
Having thrilled fans of modern disco with their hugely popular debut single "I Want, I Need," Sydney party-starters Midnight Pool Party are ready for you to fall in love with them all over again. The creative duo of Oliver Dela Cruz and Darren Morilla have been busy of late, adding a number of members to their live set-up while gigging steadily over the past few months. But now they're turn their attention to new material, and have released their new single, "Linger."
They've been working on this follow-up for some time now, creating a track that they've shaped around their appreciation of disco mainstays like Jamiroquai, Moloko, and Stardust. The stage is set with a lengthy instrumental intro before the vibe steps up a notch when Morilla's bold and brassy vocals kick in. No expense is spared on this track, with every element adding to that throw-back feel - from the slick guitar cuts, to the throbbing bass and percussion, to the snippets of cowbell -- all the boxes are thoroughly ticked. "Linger" is a perfect name for such a catchy number.
If you want/need (get it?) more music from these guys, the full release on April 2 will also include a B-Side track "Disco Delight" plus two remixes from local producers Luke Million and Sondrio.
