Why do we like this?
After weeks of internal debate, I've decided to hype Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins' brooding track, "Martyrs."
There's a lot to love here. First off, big up to producer and fellow Chicagoan OnGaud for making better use of Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" than Kanye West and company did with "Blood On The Leaves." Secondly, Mick Jenkins pulls no punches, taking aim at a nice chunk of today's rap scene with his verse and tongue-in-cheek hook.
Last but not least, a track like "Martyrs" has me interested in hearing what else Mick has in store for us on his upcoming release, The Water[s].
