Why do we like this?
I'm not entirely sure why, but I rarely enjoy listening to mashups. I mean, I respect the concept and the artistry that is involved, but I've never found a mashup that I really enjoyed. I always found them to be overly quirky and with very little substance.
Leave it up to Brisbane's YesYou to change my mind on their very first mashup attempt. In between working on new material, the Aussie duo have dropped this absolutely chilled and captivating edit of MGMT's "Congratulations" and Jay-Z's "This Life Forever," with some added vocals from Australia's very own Kylie Minogue.
What's so good about it? Well, I guess it's the fact that it's not a traditional mashup -- and by traditional I mean they're not just playing one track over another. They've manage to edit "Congratulations" ever so slightly to give it a real chillstep feel to it, which perfectly compliments Jay - Z's smooth lyricism.
