Why do we like this?

What's this? A new MGMT track, released on 4/20? Hooray for Record Store Day!

"Alien Days" begins with a childlike and sparse intro, giving way around the 45-second mark to a beautifully luscious landscape of bass, percussion, and...well, robust production.

Critics might be quick to slam this as a little too hard to grasp, but I'm actually quite liking the direction MGMT took. It's as if they decided to say "to hell with the haters, we're going to keep making music the way we want to!" And dammit, they've done just that.

"Alien Days" will be released on the band's forthcoming third album, MGMT.
