Why do we like this?
\What is chillwave, you ask? It's a relatively new form of music (with its origins in shoegaze) that's heavy on the synths, looping, downtempo disco beats, and heavily filtered vocals with simple melodic lines. Those at the forefront include Toro y Moi, Memory Tapes and Neon Indian. Add Memoryhouse to that list, and you're set. The project itself, made up of Canadian duo Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion, is apparently a tribute to German composer Max Richter's seminal work -- and was an attempt to escape the paralysis of winter. Take that as you will. Personally, I'll leave it to the listening.

Very simple electronic beats are combined in a sort of dreamy lo-fi soundscape that really does live up to the sound of a band with a name like "˜Memoryhouse'. Very dreamy, wispy, dissident melodies put together in meandering song structures that are extremely chilled out grooves. This is an interesting debut for them and shows some great potential for sure. Lots of reverb and slow, minimal drum machines run throughout, with the occasional echo-y guitar fronted by a very slow, chill vocal really does feel like a dream as you listen. Perfect for wintry, dark nights like those we have nowadays. These guys have a cool sound though and pull it off pretty well, so be on the lookout for these guys going forward for sure - DBF Music
