If their first single is anything to go by, Melbourne band Mayfair Kytes is about to become one of my favorite local acts. The five-piece, multi-instrumentalist (who plays just one instrument these days?) ensemble have been working toward the release of their debut EP, and Indie Shuffle has the premiere of their first track.
"Seasonal Thaw" is a spectacular introduction for the band, a track that is bound to spark plenty of interest both locally and abroad. While we're only hearing it now, the track was written four years ago, and discusses the constant changes our lives are put through.
An interesting blend of folk, jazz, rock and chamber music, the track also incorporates a string section (courtesy of members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra no less!) and some gorgeous harmonized vocals. There's a definite Grizzly Bear sound there, and while a lot of acts aim for something similar, not many are able to pull it off with such brilliance.
Mayfair Kytes' debut EP Animus is due out in early 2015.
