From singer to songwriter, rapper to producer, Mayer Hawthorne is a talented multi-instrumentalist that literally does it all.
He just released his fourth studio album, Where Does This Door Go, featuring some uber talented producers that include Warren "Oak" Felder (J. Lo, Jessie J, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown) and Pharrell Williams, to name a few. Nevertheless, Hawthorne once again delivers a well-balanced album, mixing in all kinds of minty vibes, from retro soul to hip-hop.
My choice pick from the album is "Crime" featuring Kendrick Lamar, and is one that should be played over and over this summer. Showing off Hawthorne's smooth R&B side and adding in some hip-hop funk, courtesy of Kendrick Lamar, "Crime" just became your summer anthem, whether you like it or not.
