We had the opportunity to watch maxime. at SXSW in Austin. It's fascinating to see how different a band can sound live. The artist uses a lot of synths that are the crux (at least for me) of some of their songs which, when performed live without any synths, hang in the air like a ghost. I could hear the 'missing.'
With "big, if true" I'm reunited with the intricate layers that add intrigue and complexity. It's a woozy track that allows the listener to guide along with ease. It could find its place as part of a road trip soundtrack, or even as a sound that compliments the solitude of a lazy night.
"big, if true" comes from maxime.'s third album, the life and death of a dog, the first since 2020.
