Why do we like this?
I was first introduced to Max Cooper via his remix of Portishead's "Roads," way back in 2010. Since then, he has grown to become one of my favorite minimal electronic artists, and with good reason.
Max's latest effort is a four-song EP titled Fragmented Self, which was written and recorded alongside classical composer Tom Hodge. "Quantet" is the latest single to be released, and we're fortunate to be one of the first to bring it to your ears!
As the story goes, the song began when Tom laid down an arrangement of string instruments based on their frequency range, from lowest to highest. Once done, he passed these recordings along to Max, who in his own words "brutalised them."
The end result is a slow-building but steady experiment that combines melody with beautiful electronic inventions. If you dig it, you can grab a free download via Max's SoundCloud page, or get your own copy of the EP here.
