I'll be first to admit that I'm a bit of a music snob. When a song I like becomes too popular, I've been known to turn my back on the artist. There's been plenty of examples of my hating, and Sydney singer/songwriter Matt Corby has received more than his fair share. Maybe it's his obvious talent, maybe it's his scruffy good looks and piercing eyes, or perhaps I just got sick of every radio station playing his hit single "Brother" to death. Whatever it was, I'm sorry Matt, you're alright.
He's actually more than alright. The young star gives off a lovely humble vibe despite his growing international success. He's back in Australia at the moment, having toured the world over the last year, and he just released his latest single "Resolution." When I found out, the hate got to me (of course), and I was ready to write the new track off as boring and commercial. But then I listened to it, and it was good -- the dude can sing! I listened to it a few more times and decided I should stop hating.
Well done, Matt. You're pretty cool. I can't guarantee the hate won't be back when everyone picks this track up, but for today at least, you're the man.
