How often is it that you can find an album filled with track after track of infectious, interesting indie pop? A good single here and there, maybe even a three-song streak, but a whole album?
Mountaintops, the latest album from duo Mates of State (out September 13 on Barsuk Records), is one of those rare finds. Song after song, I found myself captivated by the catchy, tight hooks, the creative arrangements, and the solid fun quality overall.
The husband and wife duo are certainly no strangers to putting out excellent pop music, but
Mountaintops feels lighter, somehow. From the pounding opening rhythm of "Palomino" to the just sweet enough "At Least I Have You," tracks are ear-catching without being cloying.
This is, in short, the work of a band who knows their shit "”- and knows how to have an excellent time with it as well.
