Why do we like this?
I had the pleasure of seeing Matermathu play a show in Brooklyn a few weeks ago, and I was truly impressed and enthralled with their performance. They've definitely got the "it" factor, whether they're going for that or not.
One of my favorite songs by them, "Brick City Blues," is a down-home bluesy rock rendition with gritty guitars, raw and soulful vocals, and a classic rock beat that's bound to get you waving your beer in the air and swaying your hips. This classic rock ballad has got all the fixins' -- slithering bass, edgy chords, and even a twangy guitar solo. It's refreshing to see this retro style of music being kept alive and in a respectable and truly talented kind of way.
I'd keep an eye out for Matermathu if I were you. They're currently working on their next album. In the meantime, you can treat yourself to their latest album Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City!
