Noel Heroux's self-titled first LP as his new project Mass Gothic has been floating around for a few months now, but I recently got to listen to it front to back for the first time and was incredibly impressed with how fresh and well-rounded the entire ten-track experience is.
Right around its halfway point, "Every Night You've Got to Save Me" marks an especially satisfying emotional peak of the album. Its first line, "We wake up tired," plays off of the previous track's powerful density before launching into a feel-good frenzy of peppy vocals and synth-laden power popping. It's crisp, uplifting, and catchy as hell.
Heroux says his "head cleared and the clouds parted" upon making the decision to commit to Mass Gothic as the next chapter of his career after nearly a decade as the brains behind Hooray for Earth, and with invigorating songs like this one it's easy to see why.
