Marvin Gaye's "Grapevine" is an iconic song in the American library of music. His voice, the lyrics, the instrumental composition -- nothing can be denied from this track. Remixing such a song is no small endeavor, and something that has to be executed well for it to work. Autograf, a duo of Chitown artists, did just that with their take on this staple tune.
The late 60s tune is modernized in this house remix. Marvin's vocals are left to sing and hang in a glitchy air over lumbering bass notes and steady snapping. The remix starts relatively stripped down before moving to some completely dancable measures. Slipping back to the beginning's tone about halfway through for a well-placed bridge, piano notes ring just behind Marvin's soulful lyrics.
Although Autograf is just starting down their musical path together, I expect big things from these artists. Their earlier releases have been on par with this remix's caliber, so kudos guys.
