Oh my word. Electronic producer Mark Pritchard has teamed up with none other than Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke for what, in my opinion, is the best minimal electronic track of 2016 so far.
Mark Pritchard is wonderful. Thom York is of course, wonderful. Combined? Well, the name says it all -- beautiful.
The track follow's on from Pritchard's remarkable recent single "Sad Alron," his first solo release in five years. Both singles herald the announcement of a long-awaited new album, Under The Sun, which is set for release on May 13.
The minimalist track begins with an airy flute, and the rhythm soon begins to flow. The atmosphere builds slowly, gathering fragments of sound, piecing them together one by one. Yorke's voice soon enters - although muffled at first, his tone is unmistakeable.
This track is abso-freaking-lutely stunning. Every single element is beautiful. Meditative and distantly dramatic, with Yorke's lyrics inflecting in time with melodic movements, I could listen to these six minutes on repeat all day.
Under The Sun come out on May 13 via Warp Records.
