Between this and "Boyfriend," I'm not sure I'm emotionally ready to make it to the release of Marika Hackman's next album, I'm Not Your Man, in June. There hasn't been a "sad and angsty" playlist I've made in the last four years that hasn't featured at least one Hackman song. With "My Lover Cindy," though, she sounds a little more...angry? Passionate? Ready to pounce?
Whatever it is, she's got me feeling it too, especially after that live NME version. Even after listening to this sweet, grungy track dozens of times, I'm still not convinced Hackman's the "greedy pig" or "lousy lover" she's claiming, if only because no one has ever sounded so damn appealing while saying so.
