Philadelphia-based duo Marian Hill has just released new single "Lips," a funky electro pop track with cheeky vocals and increasingly interesting rhythms.
I really love the tone of Samantha Gongol's voice -- it's not that often that you find a singer with a voice so thin, without being meek or raspy. Instead, the melody is delicate yet demanding, flirtatious, and playful.
Marian Hill's other half is producer Jeremy Lloyd, who has worked the backing layers to perfection. What starts as simple loops quickly builds a delicate atmosphere. The flittering beat is glitchy and swift, while synth chords pulsate throughout.
I find the production really interesting on this track. For the most part, it almost seems like a fairly basic composition, but the subtle accents and flickery embellishments add so much.
"Lips" is available now alongside previous single "Got It," released as an AA-side 7" through B3SCI Records.
