There’s no better feeling in the world than when you come across an artist whose music makes you slow down, submit to the sound, and willingly become an emotional sponge for a lasting moment. Life feels richer, the heart grows fuller, and the best part about it is that you get to share that feeling with others.
Today, with her debut EP Away For All Time, that artist is Many Voices Speak.
Many Voices Speak is Sweden’s Matilda Mård, who began her music career in Stockholm as a singer-songwriter before finding solace in Borlänge, where the freedom of a local karaoke bar gave her newfound confidence in her creative voice.
That voice has a gorgeous pulse on these three songs, especially this title track, slipping heart-on-her-sleeve lyrics in and out of warm reverb and faraway synths to create something like the feeling you get from resting your head next to the window on a long flight to watch the clouds go by as you ruminate on past choices both pleasing and heartbreaking. It’s a lovely mood to slip into.
On the tone of her work, she explains: "I've been told so many times I shouldn’t brood, like that's something bad," but has found that there’s nothing wrong with doing so to “look back, remember things and hopefully learn some from that."
Away For All Time is out via Strangers Candy and Hit City U.S.A.
