Every now and then I come across a track that I can't stop listening to, but it takes a lot for me to repeatedly listen to a mixtape or album all day, every day. For about the past week I've been looping and raving about Mansions on the Moon's debut mixtape, Paradise Falls, presented by DJ Benzie and Diplo. MotM is the latest project from Lane Shaw and Ben Hazlegrove of Pnuma Trio, along with singer/songwriter Ted Wendler.
They've only been out on the scene for about a year, and have since been co-signed by N*E*R*D, whose Shae describes Paradise Falls as a "musical weed brownie to the ears." The mixtape features collaborations with Xaphoon Jones of Chiddy Bang, Deadmau5, Washed Out, Big Gigantic as well as other notable artists. This band is definitely on my radar.
If you've ever seen Pixar's "Up," and can visualize the image of the breathtaking Paradise Falls, I would imagine that this mixtape would be playing right at the top. Paradise Falls shows newcomer MotM's undeniable talent for ranging musical capability, captivating everyone from Kid Cudi fans to Deadmau5 ravers.
If I could throw a word salad out there to describe Paradise Falls, it would be as follows: atmospheric ethereal dreamscape, airy, hypnotic trip-hop ambiance. You get the gist of what I'm getting at. It's refreshing, uplifting, and the best part? It's completely free on MotM's website.
