If you are not French, there is little chance you ever heard of La Fine Equipe, not to mention Madjo. The first is a crew of four beatmakers -- oOgo, Blanka, Chomsky and Mr Gib -- signed with Nowadays Records along with Fakear (another beatmaker who got our attention in the past). The second is a female singer from the French Alps area.
Listening to La Fine Equipe, you can detect strong similarities with C2C (the two crews used to tour together) and influences of Ta-ku and J Dilla. La Fine Equipe's albums are actually called Boulangerie # as a tribute to J Dilla's album Donuts. The last one, Boulangerie 3, was released last December. It features artists such as Fakear, 20syl, Superpoze, and Poldoore, so you should seriously consider giving it a try here.
With this remix of "Choose The Heart," La Fine Equipe adds some pretty beats, samples of droplets and whispers to Madjo's mesmerizing vocals. The result is dark and puzzling, yet beautiful.
