Why do we like this?

Soulful folk and an absolutely adorable mother and son duo, Madisen Ward and his mama Ruth Ward create the perfect team for writing and performing heartstring-tugging songs. The music video for their latest release, "Childhood Goodbye" doesn't give any mercy to dry eyes either.

Effortlessly saturated with emotion and passion, Mr. Ward's vocals alternate between rhythmic, chant-like verses and a full, melodic refrain layered with a chorus of back-up vocals. To pair with the haunting voices, Madisen and his Mama keep it minimal and only use acoustic guitar and simple percussion.

However, even with the short list of musical component to the song, the duo manage to create an incredible auditory fullness that is both perplexing and inspiring. The only explanation for such a phenomenon is either pure musical talent or post-production wizardry. Realistically, it's probably a golden combination of the two.

With the help of award-winning producer Jim Abbiss, according to the band's website:

"The two tracked most of the tracks live, sitting across from one another in the recording studio. They didn't use a click track. With help from a handful of session musicians, the two Wards captured the sound they'd been making since those coffeeshop days."

The duo are currently on a US tour until mid-November, so get tickets while you can!
