2011 saw the release of a single called
"Wildflowers" by a group unbeknownst to me at the time: Made In Heights. From that single, the talent was palpable. Flash forward almost three years, the group has released another amazing single called "Murakami," pushing their talent in each note.
Based in Los Angeles and with roots in NYC and Seattle, Made In Heights is a group to be reckoned with. Producer Sabzi from the Blue Scholars uses finesse and calculated restraint with each second of "Murakami." The refrain is filthy and deep, where the rest is delicate and caressing, with mixed tropical and scratch notes.
The strength of this track is the perfect variation, bringing a level of interest that a lot of tracks fail to reach. Kelsey Bulkin's amazing vocals don't hurt for a second, either.
Made In Heights is prepping to release a full length this year, so keep your ears to the ground.
