I've had this song on repeat for about a month now, so I figured I should get around to featuring it on Indie Shuffle. My New Year's Resolution is to write a review everyday (good luck, buddy).
Despite rumors of the Strokes working on a new album, Fab Moretti (drummer from the Strokes) has started an individual project, Machinegum, and it's so f*cking good. It's always refreshing to see a group of artists break out and experiment with their own sound, and the Strokes are a perfect example. To illustrate, they've spawned the Voidz, Little Joy, and Albert Hammond Jr.
Joyfully enough, "Kubes" come to us from surprise album, Conduit, a collection of songs that sound heavily influenced by post-punk and new wave. Although, I would classify its genre as synth-pop, it has a very strong feel of the late '90s and early '00s. Despite being a modern release, I feel nostalgic. Time to go watch some UK Skins or something.
Happy New Year! Cheers. Xoxo, Stella.
