Why do we like this?
Berlin's Machinedrum has long been one of electronic music's great innovators, variously turning his hand to hip-hop, glitch, footwork, techno, and house in his career.
His latest single, "Gunshotta," has him experimenting with jungle sounds, a darker, 90s precursor to drum n' bass. With sparse, haunting production, it recalls Burial -- a producer heavily influenced by jungle -- albeit at a higher tempo. Deadboy's recent track "Nova" is another good comparison.
For many fans, it will be exciting to see a return to jungle from such a forward-thinking producer, and could mark the beginning of a resurgence for a sound which has laid largely dormant since the 90s.
