Why do we like this?

Out this week came a brand new number from Mac DeMarco entitled "Nobody," and there is a lizard man casually singing in the accompanying music video, which certainly makes for an interesting entrance back into the public eye for the Canadian artist.

Mac DeMarco's taken a swing towards simplicity with the first offering off his upcoming full-length. Don't worry, it is still sounding like some signature Mac DeMarco, but a little more minimal in arrangement and perhaps this song represents a bit more of a distinguished and reflective DeMarco too? The music is stripped down: a rough outline of the strums of a guitar provide subtle melody over a sedated beat. A plucked bass line strolls along with the drums and restrained horns are introduced from time to time. Mac DeMarco sways over his composition with an ease and a knowingness: very chilled, very frank, and confidently reflective on his current position as a famous artist in 2019.

This subdued single comes off Mac DeMarco's upcoming album Here Comes the Cowboy, out May 10, 2019 -- more about the album here.
