As if a new futuristic movie starring Tom Cruise directed by Joseph Kosinski (Director of Tron) isn't enough to get you excited about Oblivion, perhaps this will: the movie was scored by French electronic producer M83.
The soundtrack is set to be released on April 9, 2013, and it's shaping up to be quite the epic release. The first track released, "StarWaves," is filled with plenty of grand-sounding strings and ambiance that one might expect for part of a movie score, but by the 2:30 mark it turns into a full on M83 crescendo-trip into Anthony Gonzalez' brilliance, with layer after layer of electronic goodness.
As for the movie, Oblivion is a sci-fi thriller set in a post-apocalyptic Earth circa 2073 that had been decimated by an alien invasion. It's based upon the Radical graphic novel of the same name, written by Kosinski, and is slated for an April 19, 2013 release.
If this track is any indicator, Oblivion is definitely a movie to check out this spring as we kick off the blockbuster madness.
