In honor of the
new Niels Schneider film coming out, which features an original soundtrack from Anthony Gonzalez aka M83, I thought I'd cover this old school track. It's off of
Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, the second studio album by the Los Angeles by way of France electronic dream pop artist.
The track was released back in 2003, the last vestige of the actual band back when it used to include Nicolas Fromageau. It's got a different sound to what's been playing on repeat in Urban Outfitters, with a heavy 4/4 beat and intense strings.
Pitchfork rated the album as 9.2, also listing it as #188 on their Top 200 albums of the 2000s
. This track was said to "evoke lush, green fields as easily as abandoned factories and polluted rivers." In a word? Epic.
Play this so loud your ears fucking bleed. This is what electronic-dream pop should sound like.
