M.Ward takes the whole folk acoustic shindig of the last decade back to the 1950s, in a seeming attempt to follow the footsteps of Buddy Holly. Frankly, I'm not falling head over heals for it. While there are some interesting moments to it (and, for the most part, it is pretty upbeat) the album just doesn't hold up throughout, often becoming indistinct and occasionally even annoying. It probably doesn't help that I'm not a huge fan of Buddy Holly, so check it out for yourself by streaming that album online.
According to NPR, this album is "a gorgeously produced mix of finger-picked guitars, upright bass and shuffling rhythms, all tied together by his achy voice." Here's one of the coolest parts: you can go visit npr to stream the entire album for free. Just click
