MIA's latest track, "Bad Girls," has an accompanying video in which she's dressed like a Williamsburg denizen in the middle of a dessert southeast of Europe. The highlight is probably when she files her nails on top of a moving vehicle on two wheels. The low is probably her doing a very awkward slowed-down version of the Dame Dash dance, almost a decade since it reached its peak. Notice I'm not speaking much about the song itself because, personally, it fell kind of flat.
Enter Scoop Deville, prodigal son of L.A. pioneer Kid Frost and wonderkid on the beats (ask just a few random rappers who happened to have rapped on his tracks, like 50 Cent and Dr. Dre). Scoop takes Maya's track, adds multiple levels of bass, substitutes the Middle East-referencing tones, adds his signature drums and creates a banger.
