Do you remember the last time you heard a song begin with a ringing phone? Was it Cake's "No Phone"? Pink Floyd's "One of My Turns"? Queens of the Stone Age's "You Would Know"? Or are you, like me, pretty sure that it was part of a Spice Girls song at some point?
For the first ten seconds of phone-ringing in Metronomy's Remix, I wasn't quite sure what would be done with Lykke Li's "I'm Good I'm Gone." The original starts heavy on clapping and piano, but today's Song of the Day surprised me by introducing an 80s-esque synth line that gives me visions of David Bowie and "Labyrinth." Drop in a sick bass line, and I find this song completely worthy. Without a doubt, Metronomy gets kudos for originality.
