Not too long ago, I fortuitously discovered Luke Reed while scouring my SoundCloud page. Since then, I have not been able to stop listening, as his style is exactly what I would consider to be a benchmark for indie/alternative rock.
For his track “Patience,” Reed bought a $50 guitar that had the tendency to go out of tune by playing just a few chords. The goal in using a guitar any other musician would steer clear from? To create the twang in this track that sounds like a cross between a banjo and, well, an out of tune guitar.
He layers this ghetto-guitar with distorted and raw riffs. This may sound unappealing, yet this song is an incredibly mellow jam and very well done. Your time will be well spent scouring through Reed’s SoundCloud page. Track after track, I have found different reasons to enjoy his unique style and I am certain with more exposure, I would among a crowd of many who feel the same.
