I was introduced to Icelandic band Low Roar a couple months ago and instantly fell head over heels in love, so this is a pretty special day for me. Today, I’m premiering a remix of Low Roar’s “Breathe In,” courtesy of Grammy-nominated Carmen Rizzo.
The original is airy and ambient, with ponderous vocals, gorgeous guitars, and a lush, emotional soundscape. Rizzo's remix has managed to take hold of that powerful intimacy while giving it a completely new feel. With a bright beat, catchy rhythms, and stunning use of layering, the entire atmosphere has morphed into something that feels like a breath of crisp, fresh air.
It's not often that a remix can take a phenomenal track and not only create something entirely different, but so completely sublime.
This is the first in a series of remixes of tracks from Low Roar's 2014 album 0, to be featured on a forthcoming remix EP.
Low Roar will also be appearing at SXSW on March 18 at The Blackheart (RSVP here) and at an official showcase on March 19 at St David's Bethell Hall (details here).
