Louis VI is a new artist from the UK, merging his love of hip-hop and grime with his background in jazz, the results are spectacular.
Following on from the probing "Free Your Mind," Louis VI's latest single, "Jazz Got Me," is a delicious self-produced trap jazz freakout.
The steely 808s are joined by a live trumpet and double bass, creating an eerie yet uplifting sound. Louis VI's lyrics are about believing in yourself and your abilities, with the Londoner getting a helping hand from American rapper Mick Jenkins. Speaking about how the collaboration came together Louis IV said:
We have a lot of friends in common, IAMNOBODI, Xavier etc so it came about organically... I'd already produced the track and done my vocals & Mick heard the track and delivered the verse the same week.
As one half of hip-hop group OthaSoul, Louis VI is fast gaining a reputation as, not only a rapper, but a producer, and is sure to be a name you'll be hearing more of this year.
