Whatever happened to house music? A year and a half ago, it felt like house music was primed to rule the masses, but I guess future bass tapped into that zeitgeist in the wake of the death of big room and electro. It's good to know, however, that some up and coming producers haven't lost their faith in proper, piano driven, populist house music.
"Something to Say," a new collab between Loud Luxury and Ryan Shepherd, channels the pop leaning house of greats like Duke Dumont or MK with heavy piano melodies and a slick, gritty bassline. It sounds classic. It sounds nostalgic. But most of all, it sounds like a much needed, refreshing palette cleanser given the current trends in dance music.
It's a given that some people might find the simplistic nature of the track too basic for them and that's fine. This track isn't for them. This is for the kids who want something poppy to jack their bodies to. This is for the kids who want the infectious groove of vintage bass melodies to hold them over before pool party season starts up again.
My only complaint is the track, as of now, seems to only be available as a radio edit and the track could potentially be an even bigger dancefloor heater with an extended cut chock full with more tension between drops and builds. In this world of short attention spans, however, I understand that keeping things short and sweet are what's gonna let this track climb the charts, so I suppose I'll have to make do with this edit in the meantime.
