I'm not a fan of the local radio stations, but I always seem to find something interesting on XM. One of my favorite stations is Sirius XM Chill. An entire station dedicated to some laid back, chillin' grooves is exactly what I need to get me through the workday. "The Birds Don't Fly High" by Lone came on the other day, and some office groovin' suggested that I dig a little deeper on this artist.
My initial reaction to the song was that it sounded like a combination of Boards of Canada and Mount Kimbie. Those soft, almost horn-like riffs create the nostalgic sounds that we're used to hearing in BoC tracks while the clicks and klacks in the background bring in the smooth vibe.
"Petrcane Beach Track" helps describe the undertone of the whole Emerald Fantasy Tracks album for me: a summery, beach-envious composition of youthful music. It's so great to have something like this during January to keep me anticipating my favorite time of the year -- summer. For me, warm weather brings such happiness and excitement so it's no surprise that I really enjoy this whole release. I would highly recommend purchasing this one or heading out to a live show if you're in the UK or Netherlands as Lone will be touring there during the next few months.
