Ta'raach, one of the best kept secrets in hip-hop, has resurfaced as of recent. Teaming up with Big Tone and select collaborators, the family has begun bubbling through Bandcamp, posting new weekly offerings from the extended family.
This week, LOVETURL debuts a track from its eclectic collective LLgL TNdr, or Legal Tender if you're in need of translation. The first offering from the crew features no members of the crew. Yep, "I Can't Control Myself" is a cover of a Pretenders Cover of a Troggs song. Guests Collin Shakespeare and The Homie Greg add a little slack and funk to the Pretenders' frantic reinterpretation of the Troggs' garage rock.
The song is a tongue in cheek tease, a nod to the fact popular music in all realms is collective and ancient and futuristic. Ta'raach tweeted "it was black. then kemet. then spread. then taught. then plagerized. then colonized and conquered. then white washed. then forgotten...."
