Full disclosure: this is another song I discovered while scrolling through Tik Tok. The app has exposed me to so many young artists, and Livingston is another great addition to the list.
Livingston is an 18-year-old from Denton, Texas writing, recording and producing all his music from his bedroom. Almost instantly, you can feel years of emotion, struggle and passion radiate from him on “Fairytale” (as well as on the rest of his new EP,Lighthouse.)
With deep and polished vocals, Livingston sings about searching for a hero to look up to (no matter how flawed they are) and trying to live up to others expectations. He makes references to animated characters today’s teens grew up idolizing, like Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars or Mr. Incredible from the Pixar film The Incredibles. I’m only 22, so I also grew up with these characters. It’s refreshing to see a performer writing music that speaks directly to our generation.
Livingston may still be an emerging artist, but I can already see him becoming the next Lewis Capaldi or Dean Lewis. Give this track a listen because something tells me the next time I hear it, it will be on the radio instead of my for your page on Tik Tok.
