Recommended to me on Twitter by Dry The River, new ParadYse records band Liu Bei has blown me away with the stunning debut single, "Infatuation."
As a brand new band, Liu Bei's mysterious anonymity is virtually still in tact, making them a very alluring prospect. Although anonymity is exciting with any new artist, this is made much sweeter in Liu Bei's case, thanks to the quality and refinement that their music already showcases.
According to the band's short biography, their name is inspired by a benevolent Chinese warlord called Liu Bei, who was believed to be an eight foot giant with ears so large that he could see them himself; an image and man that the band felt like "something to aspire to.” With this inspiration in mind, "Infatuation" proves to be as grand and epic as the legend.
Showered in glistening synths and intense guitar reverb, "Infatuation" is a grand statement that's powerful, lamenting lyrics and sublime soaring vocals make for an awe-inspiring listen.
