Why do we like this?
For a city of around half a million people, Gothenburg, Sweden is weirdly productive. It has given rise to some serious global artists, and that's before Scandinavia's general knack for producing heavy metal is factored in. Jens Lakeman, Jose Gonzalez, and The Knife all come from there. That's right; Jose Gonzalez is Swedish!
Anyway, a Gothenburg band frequently becoming worthy of mention is Little Dragon. Although they released their first 7-inch back in 2006, the first half of 2011 has shown that finally people are sitting up and listening.
The song "Ritual Union" has been a positive boon for the band. Marrying dreamy electronics and an R&B edge, it has the cool bounce of a festival favorite, the cawing effects of great electro pop and more head-bopping funk than you can shake a stick at (that's a lot of head-bopping funk, guys).
So what should you be looking forward to with Little Dragon and when? Well the album Ritual Union is out on July 25, and the band will be touring Europe and the US over the summer.
Their output is unbelievably varied, so expect anything from garage inspired soul with spiralling vocal flourishes to dour piano ballads. If you're looking for a creative, inspiring and adventurous band for the summer, then you might have just found it.
