Why do we like this?
Ok. Wow. I'm a little floored by this remix today. Vlooper, a French-Canadian electronic musician, just reworked Lil Wayne's 2008 single "A Milli," and it's a goddamn masterpiece.
Taking a page from Nicolas Jaar's Bluewave Edits, Lil' Wayne's gravely voice is slowed down to a molasses pace. Vlooper manages to make the grimy rapper sound -- dare I say it? -- almost classy. This extrapolated sophistication from Wayne's overtly self-inflating lyrics is paired with a jazzy, spaced out beat complete with flutters of piano. The combination is perfect.
This remix is a part of a compilation called Booty Based Mob, which can be streamed and downloaded here. Vlooper's SoundCloud page also features similarly styled remixed of Kendrick Lemar and Missy Elliot, which are both highly recommended.
