Sydney duo Left. is kicking off 2015 in style with the release of their new single "Lay With Me." A beautiful track with a devastating subject matter, the song is about being forced into an arranged marriage while being in love with someone else.
There's a gorgeous husky feel to the whole track -- not just the breathy melody, but the lightly delayed guitar, ambient synths, and rustling percussion.
The scintillating beat is syncopated and punchy, but it flows under the radar -- driving the track along, without overpowering for a moment.
As always, I adore artists who incorporate guitars and other instruments into electronic music. The guitar is used perfectly on "Lay With Me," adding a kind of haunting desperation to the upbeat atmosphere. All in all this is a beautiful track, perfectly blending enticing rhythms and a sublime melody with a bleak sense of emotional turmoil.
Left's debut EP Sirens is due out on February 6 through Create/Control.
