Why do we like this?

Drawn in by the melancholy and relatability of the lyrics, Laveda's "Surprise" delivers heavy lyrics that are kept afloat with the more upbeat instrumentals and shimmering vocal performance.

"Being alive is just getting old. I’m not surprised that I’m not sober," sings vocalist Ali Genevich. Take a brief moment to observe the world around us and it becomes clear that most humans do this. In the Western world — TV, alcohol, an overemphasis on romantic relationships, and more — all fall under the giant umbrella that could be summed up in that 'not sober' lyric.

Laveda will be going on tour in September 2022 in support of this single leading up to an album release next year via Paper Cup Music.
