It's Thursday, which where I'm living in Kurdistan, Iraq, means it's the start of the weekend. I'm not sure what I'm more excited about "“ the cold beer in my hand and the promise of a three-day weekend (due to the impending and seemingly dangerous elections being held on Saturday), or the fact that I've just been notified about a new Shlohmo remix.
I must admit that I wasn't hugely captivated within the first couple of minutes of listening, but the beauty of some tracks that last longer than three to four minutes means there's ample opportunity for a solid build up, and this remix of Laura Mvula's "She" certainly has that.
It starts with a slow-paced and ambient melody while gradually introducing some percussion and sampled vocals, but by the time the track is nearing its conclusion, the vocals are more prominent and it's become more upbeat. By this point it's almost as though you're listening to a completely different tune altogether and you didn't even notice the metamorphic change.
Have a listen for yourself. I'll have another beer before I make my mind up.
